We understand that attorneys have an important role to play in the achievement of an egalitarian and prosperous society. To that end our firm has engaged in various initiatives to make South Africa a better place for all who live in it.
Recognizing that our skills as attorneys provide us with the tools to effect meaningful change, our professionals often agree to act for indigent, poor or otherwise vulnerable persons on a pro bono or pro deo basis where their rights have been infringed or in matters of public interest. We have acted successfully in many of these cases, including a case involving two whistleblowers who were unfairly dismissed by a large metropolitan municipality.
In addition, our professionals often volunteer at the pro bono Clinic at the Labour Court and sit on various boards and committees, including the Gauteng and Western Cape Chapters of the South African Society of Labour Law. Various members of our Employment Law, Benefits, Industrial Relations and Discrimination department have also acted as pro bono Judges of the Labour Court as part of efforts to expedite dispute resolution and to assist with clearing the backlog of cases.
Our firm is committed to transformation, and we are a level one B-BBEE contributor, which allows us to add greater value for our clients. We have also partnered with several small businesses as part of our enterprise and supplier development goals, with the aim of assisting black entrepreneurs to grow their business and become self-sustaining.
We also drive initiatives to support charitable causes, including those of Afrika Tikkun, Compass NPO & Child Welfare Tshwane.
